Shock Tuning

Shock Tuning

1. Spring Rates

  • What it means: Spring rate is the amount of weight it takes to compress the spring one inch.

  • Why it matters: Too soft, and your UTV bottoms out. Too stiff, and you lose traction and comfort.

  • How we tune it: American UTV uses MTS Off-Road springs that are matched to the rider’s vehicle weight, accessories, and driving style. This ensures you’re not running a “one-size-fits-all” setup.

2. Shock Valving

  • What it means: Valving controls how fast shock oil flows through the internal shims and ports inside the shock.

  • Why it matters: Proper valving makes the difference between a harsh ride and a controlled, planted UTV.

  • How we tune it: With MTS valving technology, shocks are revalved to suit your terrain—whether it’s dunes, rocks, trails, short course or desert racing. American UTV ensures every shock is tailored, not generic.

3. Adjustments

  • Compression & rebound: Adjusters fine-tune how fast shocks compress and extend.

  • Preload: Adjusting preload changes ride height and suspension stiffness.

  • Why it matters: These adjustments let you adapt your suspension for different terrains without a full rebuild. At American UTV, we help customers understand what each click or turn does, so you can take control of your setup.

4. Benefits of Proper Suspension Tuning

  • Increased stability at high speeds

  • Better cornering and traction

  • Reduced driver fatigue on long rides

  • Maximum performance from your UTV investment
